Are You Scared Silly?
Theres a story of a widow who got down to the end of her grocery supplies and prepared the last meal for herself and her son. There had been no rain for several years and she had no hope for food. In times like these, we can relate to her desperation. Does talk of recession leave your knees wobbly? This is your opportunity to bring hope to people who are hearing nothing-like-hope on the news. This is the time to bring the Good News that God is ready to hear people call to Him and renew a covenant of love with them.
How can you be a Hope-Bearer?
1) Listen. People need to know that someone hears them and cares about them. You can represent the Lord by being available when they just need to talk. 2) Be an advocate. Do you know someone who recently lost a job? Rally the troops to surround them in this difficult time. Bring in groceries. Invite them over for a meal. Send a card and affirm qualities youve noticed in them. The self-esteem takes a beating in a layoff; let them know you still believe in them! 3) Strengthen your own faith. As you dig into Gods Word, you will find story after story of people who were hard up but still clung to their faith in God. The more you learn about their tenacity, the more you will want to imitate them! Like the widow at Zarephath, the one mentioned earlier, we can find miracles daily when we trust in God for the outcome. She took a step of faith and found Jehovah Jirah (my Lord that Provides). Read more of her story in 1 Kings 17 in the Bible. When you find comfort in the God-who-cares, your fears will melt away. When you find security in the God who provides, talk of recessions will no longer scare you. You will have found Hope to cling to, and a desire to help others overcome their own anxieties. So go ahead! Make someones day!
