How Do You Debrief?
After a milestone event, it would be real easy to assimilate back into the daily routine, take a sigh of relief that you survived, and eventually forget the exhilaration of what you experienced. But you also miss the benefit of hindsight if you dont make time for reflection. Here are:
5 Steps to help you Decompress after your Retreat!
1. Journal. Write down everything that comes to mind. Note the conversations. Describe the meals. Savor the memories. 2. Rest. I always have retreat meltdown when I come home! While away, someone else cooked the meals, washed the dishes and supplied clean towels. I had ample opportunity for friendships, free time and fun. And I used every ounce of energy for speaking and leading others to a time of refreshment. Thats a hard act to follow! 3. Regroup. Take time to think about the next step. Where will you head with this new accomplishment? Do you sense the Lord guiding you to use the materials in another way? How will the things learned there shape your commitments at home? Do you need to trim back or expand the ways that you divvy up your time? This time of clarifying helps to refine and refocus your goals. 4. Have Lunch! Get your leadership team together and rehash the event over a burger. What went well? What could have been done better? What feedback did the participants give? Each persons perspective will help to get an overall picture of the success of your retreat. 5. Say Thank You. Retreats are not a solo event, nor can they be effective without a team contributing to the whole. Personalized hand-written notes go a long way toward affirming the efforts of each one, and help them to know they are a valued part of the team. When you take the time to reflect on your time away, youll be a step ahead in where you see yourself in the next part of the journey!
See for Yourself!
